Crawton and Catterline

Crawton was once a small fishing village south of Fowlsheugh reserve and north of Catterline. Following decline over more than 50 years, however, the village was eventually abandoned in 1927.

Popular with artists and seafood lovers, Catterline is an intriguing village with a slightly wild side. One of the highlights of the year is the annual Cartie Challenge, where teams race homemade ‘gravity powered’ soapbox carties down a steep hill.
Things to see and do
  • Explore the ruins of the village of Crawton and take a walk along the bay
